# Energy 1.1 Solar orientation of lots
# Applies to
All subdivisions
# Objective
To provide good solar orientation of lots and solar access for future dwellings.
# Summary
Better practice is awarded where at least 75 percent of residential lots demonstrate appropriate solar orientation.
Appropriate solar orientation is achieved when:
- The long axis of lots is within the range of north 20° west to north 30° east, or east 20° north to east 30° south;
- For lots between 300 m² and 500 m² that are proposed to contain dwellings built to the boundary, the long axis is within 30° east and 20° west of north;
Lot dimensions are adequate to protect solar access, considering likely dwelling size and the relationship of each lot to the street.
# Documentation & evidence required
