# Integrated Water Management

Better practice for Integrated Water Management in subdivision design involves a holistic approach to the water cycle—reducing consumption, enabling the beneficial use of recycled and stormwater, and embedding water sensitive urban design to support sustainable and resilient communities. In the Integrated Water Management category, BESS has a focus on actions that:

  • implement a stormwater management strategy (SWMS) to protect waterways and manage runoff sustainably
  • enable stormwater re-use, such as passive irrigation, to reduce potable water demand and support landscape health
  • encourage innovation in integrated water management to deliver improved environmental and community outcomes
