# IWM1.1 Stormwater Management Strategy (SWMS)
# Applies to
All subdivisions
# Objective
To sustainably manage water supply and demand, water resources, wastewater, drainage and stormwater through an integrated water management approach.
# Summary
Better practice is awarded where a Stormwater Management Strategy (SWMS) is submitted upfront, showing how Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) measures respond to site conditions such as slope and topography. The strategy should align with any relevant Precinct Structure Plan (PSP) requirements and local council or water authority policies, including Integrated Water Management (IWM) strategies.
MUSIC or other relevant stormwater modelling and reference to Urban Stormwater Management Guidance (Publication 1739.1) should be included. A summary of site-specific conditions — such as geology, soils, and groundwater — can also support the strategy, particularly in sensitive areas.
The development may demonstrate how it responds to the EPA’s General Environmental Duty (GED).
