# IWM 2.1 - Stormwater re-use - passive irrigation
# Applies to
All subdivisions
# Relevant Victoria Planning Provisions
# Clause 56
# 56.05-1 Integrated urban landscape objectives (opens new window)
To provide for integrated water management systems and contribute to drinking water conservation.
Standard C12 includes
The landscape design should
- Support integrated water management systems with appropriate landscape design techniques for managing urban run-off including wetlands and other water sensitive urban design features in streets and public open space.
# 56.07-4 Stormwater Management objectives (opens new window)
To minimise damage to properties and inconvenience to residents from stormwater.
To ensure that the street operates adequately during major storm events and provides for public safety.
To minimise increases in stormwater and protect the environmental values and physical characteristics of receiving waters from degradation by stormwater.
To encourage stormwater management that maximises the retention and reuse of stormwater.
To encourage stormwater management that contributes to cooling, local habitat improvements and provision of attractive and enjoyable spaces.
See Standard C25 for detailed measurable standard
# Summary
# Better practice
Awarded where at least 25% of streets incorporate stormwater treatment or passive irrigation to trees or shrubs, as shown in the Stormwater Management Strategy (SWMS) or Integrated Water Management (IWM) Plan.
# Excellence
Awarded where at least 50% of streets include stormwater treatment or passive irrigation to trees or shrubs, as shown in the Stormwater Management Strategy (SWMS) or Integrated Water Management (IWM) Plan.
Design of passive irrigation for street trees should consider crossovers, utilities, and catchment areas to ensure effective water delivery. Supporting plans such as the Functional Layout Plan (FLP) and drainage design should show how WSUD assets are integrated and functionally supported.
# Documentation & evidence required
# Landscape Masterplan
- 'IWM overlay to landscape plan with passively irrigated streets / trees marked
# Engineering Plan (Functional Layout Plan)
- 'Detailed drawings / sections for passive irrigation
