# Climate Resilience 2.1 Urban Heat - Shading of pathways

# Applies to

All subdivisions

# Objective

To provide thermally comfortable and accessible active transport networks that support health, wellbeing and climate resilience.

# Summary

Better practice is awarded when the Landscape Masterplan demonstrates at least 50% shading of pedestrian paths between 1 November and 31 March, from 10am to 5pm. The plan should identify cool routes—continuous shaded paths—and include tree species, canopy size, soil zones, and all impervious surfaces in the public realm.

Shade modelling or arborist advice may be used to estimate canopy coverage and inform Tree Protection Zones (TPZs). Passive irrigation strategies should also be considered to support healthy canopy growth.

# Documentation & evidence required
