To provide attractive and continuous landscaping in streets and public open spaces that contribute to the character and identity of new neighbourhoods and urban places or to existing or preferred neighbourhood character in existing urban areas.

Standard C12

The landscape design should:

  • Develop appropriate landscapes for the intended use of public open space including areas for passive and active recreation, the exercising of pets, playgrounds and shaded areas.
  • Provide appropriate pathways, signage, fencing, public lighting and street furniture.

Awarded where public water fountains are provided in high-use and high-value locations within open space areas. This includes:

  • High pedestrian traffic areas, such as adjacent to playgrounds or main path intersections;
  • Active open spaces where physical activity is encouraged (e.g., sports fields, fitness stations, walking loops);
  • Open spaces with planned picnic tables or BBQ facilities.
