# SPR 2.1e Rest nodes and recreation facilities - Shade structures or shelters
# Applies to
Large (60-249 lots) and very large (250+ lots) subdivisions
# Objective
To provide attractive and continuous landscaping in streets and public open spaces that contribute to the character and identity of new neighbourhoods and urban places or to existing or preferred neighbourhood character in existing urban areas.
# Summary
Excellence is awarded where shade structures or shelters are provided at major gathering locations within open space areas to improve comfort, reduce temperatures, and moderate micro-climates.
These locations include:
- Playgrounds, where children and caregivers congregate;
- Picnic areas and BBQ facilities, where people are likely to spend extended periods.
Applicants should identify proposed shade structure locations in the Landscape Masterplan and demonstrate alignment with these criteria through annotations, design rationale, or microclimate considerations.
